BUDAPEST, Oct 18 (Hina) - During his two-day visit to Hungary,
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Wednesday held a meeting with
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Their talks revolved around the success Hungary has achieved in the
economy.
"We discussed Hungarian solutions thanks to which Hungarians have
achieved economic successes and for us it is important that their
objectives were employment, promotion of the domestic production
and the increase in export," Mesic told reporters after his meeting
with Orban.
"They are still pursuing that policy, and, therefore, they need now
work force that they import, as they have currently 100,000
vacancies," Croatian head of state added stressing that this was
very instructive for his country.
During the talks with Orban, Mesic wanted to know which economic
problems Croatia had to solve in order to be able to enter the
European Union.
"We must know that Croatia is still in transition, while Hungary is
going out of it," Mesic said recalling that Hungary is a full member
of NATO and that it will be the first country to be admitted to the EU
after its enlargement.
Following his meeting with Orban, Mesic visited Budapest city
authorities where he was presented with a symbolic key to the city
gates.
Bestowing the key on Croatian President, Budapest Mayor Gabor
Demszky said this present showed that Mesic would always be welcome
to the Hungarian capital. President Mesic said he was glad that such
gesture helped promote cooperation between the two neighbouring
countries and their capitals.
After the reception in the city hall, president Mesic and a Croatian
delegation went sightseeing.
The first day of their official visit will be completed with a
dinner which Hungarian President Ferenc Madl is going to give this
night in honour of his guest, Croatia's head of state.
Apart President Mesic, the Croatian delegation also includes
Foreign Minister Tonino Picula and Transport and Communication
Minister Alojz Tusek.
