MOSTAR, Oct 18 (Hina) - International High representative to
Bosnia-Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch on Wednesday criticised the
decision of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina
party (HDZ BiH) to organise a referendum for Bosnian Croats next
month.
Petritsch told reporters in Mostar a referendum organised by a
political party would have no legal grounds.
Noting the Croat people were the least numerous in this country,
Petritsch said the idea of a referendum was a bad one because the
smallest group would turn out the looser.
He called on Bosnian Croats to cooperate with others through
established government institutions.
Petritsch on Wednesday visited the Mostar Canton court which was
recently granted by the international war crimes tribunal in The
Hague to process more than 20 Bosniak war crimes suspects and five
Mostar Croats.
The talks with judges focused on financial assistance to the court
in the upcoming court proceedings.
Petritsch asserted he was disturbed by the slow implementation of
Bosnian Federation property rights laws in two town municipalities
-- Southwest and West (with a Croat majority of residents).
He claimed that out of 6,000 requests for the restitution of
property in these two Mostar municipalities, only 200 had been
solved hitherto.
The eastern part of Mostar is no better, he added.
