ZAGREB, Oct 2 (Hina) - Croatia's Prime Minister Ivica Racan on
Monday assessed that Saturday's proclamation of the Croatian
Democratic Union reflects a worrisome degree of irresponsibility
of that party's leadership.

radicalisation of the political situation and for jeopardising
Croatia's independence. The HDZ leadership also urged early

"I think this escalation, owing to the latest proclamation and
pamphlet of the HDZ, speaks of a worrisome level of
irresponsibility by the party's leadership. Such a move of the HDZ
leaders is directed towards destabilisation and the creation of a
crisis in Croatia," Racan said.
He added that, considering the opposition party's strength, it
would not succeed. This move will be to their detriment, the Premier
said after Monday's session of heads of the six parties which make
up the ruling coalition, who discussed efforts to co-ordinate
activities in changes of the Constitution, as this topic should be
added to the national parliament's agenda on Friday.
Racan told reporters that there was still no formal proposal from
the HDZ that the Sabor discuss a vote of no confidence in Prime
Minister and Interior Minister Sime Lucin, and added that he did not
fear the possible motion.
Today the six ruling parties' representatives just mentioned HDZ's
announcement that its deputies would not vote in favour of
constitutional amendments. We just mentioned it, we are not afraid
of HDZ's announcements, Racan said.
The PM assessed that the HDZ had evidently taken a destructive
course aimed at obstructing just about everything in the Sabor and
the country's political life. It is their right, but I do not
believe they will profit from exercising it, he added.
Racan said that according to information he had, there was still no
motion relating to a parliamentary debate on a declaration on the
Homeland Defence War and the security situation in the country.
When such proposal comes I will have nothing against it, as far as I
and the Government are concerned, he emphasised.
Considering the Constitution's amendments, we discussed only the
contents of the changes and the harmonisation of stands in further
procedure. The six-party coalition will try to find joint solutions
and remove possible misunderstanding on certain issues, such as a
commissioner for defence, Racan told reporters.
