ZAGREB, Sept 30 (Hina) - The HDZ pamphlet is the pamphlet of a party
which lost the Croatian citizens' trust at January's elections, and
is not directed only against the government but against all
Croatian citizens, the government's media and public relations
service said in a statement on Saturday.#L#
The government commented on a proclamation the largest opposition
party, the Croatian Democratic Union, issued today calling on the
Croatian people to use democratic means to express disagreement
with what it says is dangerous conduct of the regime, and urging
early parliamentary elections.
The majority of the population gave their vote to and confidence in
this government for the next four years, said the statement. Prime
Minister Ivica Racan's government has come to grips with difficult
economic problems left by the previous, HDZ-led government, and
statements like the proclamation divert the attention from the key
issues of Croatian society.
Proclamations like HDZ's are radicalising the political scene,
inadmissibly raising tensions and unsettling the population, the
government statement says.
Croatia's citizens on January 3 said what they thought of the HDZ
and will now be able to see the real intent of such pamphlets. The
government will be consistent in pursuing with the enforcement of
the Constitution, the law, and the equality of all citizens before
the law, the statement concluded.
