Croatia is still seeking for 1,588 people who have gone missing or
have been detained.
The process of exhumation and identification of remains should be
accelerated, and connections be made with all who have useful
information about the process.
The problem of missing persons should be covered in a greater degree
in the media, MPs at the House of Counties said, having adopted a
Report on the work of the Government Commission for Missing and
Detained Persons in the period from mid-October of last year until
this August.
MPs assessed two problems were noticeable in the issue of missing
persons -- the problems of searching for and punishing the
perpetrators of war crimes.
Agreeing that the pressure of the Government and the public must be
sharper in the search for the missing, MPs warned that the interest
of the international public in the problem would decrease with
time.
The House of Counties expressed agreement with a Government motion
that the Government should continue to pass decree laws, although
with significant restrictions.
Accordingly, the Government could pass decree laws only when the
Parliament is out of session, namely in the period from December 15
to January 15, and from June 15 to September 15.
