SYDNEY, Sept 24 (Hina) - Croatia's crew won the bronze medal in the Olympic men's eight event in rowing. By winning gold in the blue riband men's eight, the British crew (time 5:33.08) beat Australian and Croatian crews (5:33.88 and
5:34.85 respectively) into second and third place.

Croatia's crew - Igor Francetic, Tihomir Frankovic, Tomislav
Smoljanovic, Niksa Skelin, Sinisa Skelin, Kresimir Culjak, Igor
Boraska, Branimir Vujevic with cox Silvijo Petriska - has achieved
the biggest success for Croatian rowing at Olympic Games.
This results has been made after just four months they together
trained and had rather small financial support in comparison to
other crews.
Of all finalists at the Sydney Olympics, only this Croatian crew had
no medal from previous important competitions.
This bronze is the second medal which Croatia's representatives
have got in Sydney so far. The first medal - the gold - was won by
weightlifter Nikolay Peshalov a week ago.
Since it won independence, Croatia has earned seven Olympic
medals.
