RIJEKA, Sept 21 (Hina) - Rijeka's shipyard Viktor Lenac signed a contract with an Irish company, Darjul Ltd., a representative for France's Alcatel S.A. and Denmark's Tele Denmark A/S, on the transformation of a ship for general cargo
into a ship for the laying of optic cables, Viktor Lenac officials said in a statement Thursday. The job, worth about US$13 million, was agreed on based on successfully realised previous projects of very demanding transformations. The shipyard will have to, among other things, install 940 tonnes of steel, about 100,000 metres of various cables, new generating sets, and equip the "Kraka" ship's foundation. The ship will also have to be shortened by 16 metres and have highly sophisticated equipment installed which is to be used for the laying of cables on the sea bed.(hina) lml jn
