agreement on the avoidance of double taxation between the two
countries in Vienna on Thursday.
The agreement was signed as part of Picula's day-long visit to the
Austrian capital. He was the first minister to visit Vienna after

"Austria and Croatia have been very close in all fields, and this
agreement is a new step in strengthening economic, as well as all-

minister told a joint news conference.
She assessed today's talks with Picula as very successful and
announced Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel would officially
visit Zagreb on October 6.
The Croatian foreign minister voiced satisfaction with bilateral
relations in the past, adding he was confident the agreement on the
avoidance of double taxation would encourage the economies of
Austria and Croatia to further upgrade cooperation.
"Austria's support to Croatia is very significant, and now that the
agreement has been signed I am confident of further improvement in
economic relations," Picula told reporters.
Responding to questions from the press, the two foreign ministers
said today's talks had also addressed concrete projects in road and
railroad transportation, and especially tourism. Austria has
offered to provide expert assistance in Croatia's approach to the
European Union.
Picula said he and Ferrero-Waldner both voiced concern during a
discussion of the situation in Southeast Europe. He is hopeful the
citizens in the neighbouring Federal Republic of Yugoslavia wouls
realise at the upcoming elections the need for internal
democratisation.
