The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia last
week announced judges Almiro Rodrigues, Fouad Piad, and Patricia
Wald would spend three days in Croatia to present the tribunal's
work on a professional level.
Hellman said their arrival was not connected to specific cases.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the ICTY judges are to meet Croatian
judges and attorneys and representatives of the Croatian Justice
Ministry, visit the Zagreb Law School, and hold talks with
representatives of non-governmental organisations.
Judges Rodrigues, Piad, and Wald make up the panel which will lead
the trial of Mladen "Tuta" Naletilic and Vinko Martinovic, Bosnian
Croats charged with crimes in the southern Bosnia-Herzegovina
region of Mostar.
The Croatian public is already familiar with Judge Rodrigues' name.
The Portuguese sat on panels which led the trials of Tihomir
Blaskic, former commander of the Central Bosnia Operations Zone,
and Zlatko Aleksovski, former Kaonik prison governor.
Judge Riad, of Egypt, sat on the appeals panel in the Furundzija
case.
