RIJEKA OPENED RIJEKA, Sept 15 (Hina) - A free zone called 'Bazen Rasa-Stalije' within the Croatian port of Rijeka was opened on Friday. Upon the opening the port authorities will invite bids for concession in the zone. In this zone,
which is near the mouth of the River Rasa, there will be a plant for the final processing of tropical timber that should then be exported to central European countries. Besides, there are terminals for the transshipment of cattle and for general cargo. The free trade zone, which employs 200 workers for the time being, occupies 14,000 square metres of the enclosed land. An assistant to Croatian Economy Minister, Josip Kardum, promised that he would support the development of free zones in Croatia where there were programmes for production and employment.
