ZAGREB, Sept 4 (Hina) - Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic, accompanied by his aides, on Monday morning left for New York to attend the 6-8 September United Nations Millennium Summit. "My messages at the UN Millennium Summit will be
about what Croatia is doing at the threshold of the 21st century and what it is expecting from others to do at the threshold of the 21st century in order to avoid and rule out war as a means for political solutions," President Mesic said prior to his departure from the Zagreb airport. He described the schedule of his stay in New York as full explaining that besides participating in the UN summit, he would hold a series of bilateral meetings with other statesmen. The Millennium Summit is the ever biggest summit of statesmen gathering over 150 heads of state or government of UN member countries. "My messages at the UN Millennium Summit will be about what Croatia
is doing at the threshold of the 21st century and what it is
expecting from others to do at the threshold of the 21st century in
order to avoid and rule out war as a means for political solutions,"
President Mesic said prior to his departure from the Zagreb
airport.

The Millennium Summit is the ever biggest summit of statesmen
gathering over 150 heads of state or government of UN member
countries.
The event will focus on the role of the World Organisation in the
21st century as well as on reforms it has to undergo so that it will
be able to respond to dramatic changes in the contemporary world.
The summit, which will be co-chaired by the Finnish and Namibian
Presidents, Tarja Halonen and Sam Nujoma, is to be opened by the UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Croatian President will deliver his speech on Thursday, 7
September.
During his stay in New York, Mesic will meet Annan and hold talks
with a score of other heads of state including Palestinian leader
Yasser Arafat, Jordanian King Abdullah and presidents of Ukraine,
Hungary, Iran, Moldova, Switzerland, Turkey and of a few non-
aligned countries.
Mesic is expected to meet representatives of American Croatians and
to tour the University of Yale.
Croatian President flew to New York aboard a Croatia Airlines plane
at the regular Zagreb-New York line.
