RIJEKA, Aug 31 (Hina) - Kvarner islands of Krk, Rab, Cres and Losinj (northern Croatian Adriatic) have been declared a disaster area because of this summer's drought. Authorities of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County made this decision on
Thursday considering the fact the long drought substantially lessened the crop yields and caused other damage. Not only agricultural produce but also the cattle on those islands have been affected by this condition. About 2,000 sheep died due to the lack of grass and water. So far, the damage has been estimated between 10 and 15 million kuna (between 2.5 and 3.75 million German marks). Of 21 Croatian counties, 11 have been declared a disaster area because of the this year's drought.(hina) ms
