ZAGREB, Aug 29 (Hina) - Croats from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Yugoslavia who have settled in Croatia in temporary accommodation during the war have requested that their representatives be included in housing commissions, as are those of
Serb refugees returning to Croatia. This would expedite and facilitate solutions to housing problems in liberated areas, because the solutions would come from those directly involved, acting president of the Association of Croat immigrants and settlers, Tomo Aracic, told a news conference Tuesday. ZAGREB, Aug 29 (Hina) - Croats from Bosnia-Herzegovina and
Yugoslavia who have settled in Croatia in temporary accommodation
during the war have requested that their representatives be
included in housing commissions, as are those of Serb refugees
returning to Croatia.
This would expedite and facilitate solutions to housing problems in
liberated areas, because the solutions would come from those
directly involved, acting president of the Association of Croat
immigrants and settlers, Tomo Aracic, told a news conference
Tuesday.
Aracic said housing commissions in some municipalities under
special government care had not been functioning for months and had
not one representative of Croat settlers.
The Association complained with the work of the Agency for Real-
estate which buys out homes of people who had left Croatia with no
intention of returning.
Their request is that the Agency first buys out the homes in which
Croats have settled, and then abandoned and destroyed homes and
construction sites.
The Association has demanded insight into the Agency's
transactions because it feels the Agency was selling them homes at a
higher price than they had been bought for.
The Association asked of the Government to provide permanent health
insurance to pensioners with low Bosnian pensions who are now
living in areas of special government care, that is, areas
devastated during the war.
Association representatives were received by the president of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, Ivo Sanader, who pledged to
help, and called on the Government to solve the problems of Croat
immigrants as soon as possible, the HDZ said in a statement
Tuesday.
