ZAGREB, Aug 29 (Hina) - All fires in Dubrovnik-Neretva County have been contained, but a number of fires are still active in other areas along the Adriatic coast, the State Alert Centre reported on Tuesday morning. A heavy rain which
fell late yesterday afternoon in the Dubrovnik area helped firefighters put out fires which broke out between Vrgat and Malastica, on the Peljesac peninsula, and in the Ston area. The fires have burned down an area of some 14,000 hectares covered by underbrush and pine wood. Firefighters also contained a fire which broke out between the villages of Vid and Prud near Metkovic on Sunday. The blaze has consumed about 60 hectares of dense pine forest and underbrush. Most fires which have broken out in Split-Dalmatia County have been brought under control. Still active are fires in the area Ogorje-Duboka Draga, Vrlika-Podosoje, Klis-Rupotina, Vrgorac-Vrapce-Zavojane, and Lucane-Hrvace-Zelovo. Th

fire which broke out between the villages of Vid and Prud near

Most fires which have broken out in Split-Dalmatia County have been

Still active are fires in the area Ogorje-Duboka Draga, Vrlika-
Podosoje, Klis-Rupotina, Vrgorac-Vrapce-Zavojane, and Lucane-
Hrvace-Zelovo.
The fire at Cacvina near Trilj was contained yesterday. The blaze
has consumed 450 hectares of underbrush and evergreen and leaf
forests.
Another fire, which broke out on Mt. Svilaja, is not being
extinguished because it broke out on inaccessible ground.
In the area between Mimica and Stanici, 280 pylons and 11 kilometres
of power transmission lines burned down in a fire. The Croatian
Power Industry is removing damage on the ground.
Firefighters have brought under control a fire which broke out
yesterday on a garbage dump in Supetar on the island of Brac.
Firefighters are still battling a fire on Mt. Svilaja in Sibenik-
Knin County. The blaze has burned down 1,000 hectares of underbrush
and evergreen and leaf forests.
Fires which broke out near Plavno, at the village of Cetina, at
Laskovica near Skradin and at Miljevci were put out yesterday.
Still active is a fire which broke out yesterday at Radljevac.
Fires erupted yesterday on five locations between Sukosan and
Skabrnja in the Zadar area (Zadar County) after the passage of a
freight train travelling between Zadar and Benkovac. The fires were
put out in a quick firefighting operation, which included two
firefighting planes.
The fire at Galovac was put out late last night. Another fire, which
broke out between Galovac and Mostar, was put out yesterday
afternoon.
Firefighters yesterday also put out a fire which broke out in the
area Gornji Zemunik-Bastica in the Zadar area. The blaze has burned
down 150 hectares of underbrush.
The Adriatic highway was closed on Monday at intervals due to a fire
which broke out near Murvica Donja, also in Zadar County. The fire
was extinguished yesterday evening after consuming about 35
hectares of underbrush and several pylons. Villages between
Murvica and Posedarje were left without power.
The fire on the location Zrmanja-Kravlja Draga-Prljevo near Gracac
is still active. The blaze is spreading over an area of 1,200
hectares of wood and underbrush. Locals from the villages Otric,
Zrmanja and Mala Popina had to be evacuated last night as the fire
was spreading due to a gale. Several railway sleepers and a railway
carriage burned down.
Fires near Paljuv, Pridraga and Islam Grcki are still active.
Two firefighters were injured, one of them seriously, while
battling a fire which broke out yesterday near Novi Vinodolski in
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Efforts to put out the blaze, which
is burning on an area of some 300 hectares, are hampered by a gale.
