HDZ SEEKS IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION INTO ATTACK ON HOUSE OF HDZ DEPUTY

ZAGREB, Aug 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) on Thursday issued a statement saying it was appalled at the grave terrorist attack on their parliamentary deputy and respected Zadar physician, Zivko Kolega. The party requested that Interior Minister Sime Lucin immediately launch an investigation so that the names of the perpetrators of this "heinous, underhand and cowardly criminal act" are discovered as soon as possible. If it is proved that the attempt on the lives of Kolega and his family was politically motivated, that would confirm the existence of the worst form of totalitarianism and chaos in which political opponents and those of different views are being silenced with weapons, the HDZ secretariat said in a statement. The Zadar County police on Wednesday reported that half an hour after midnight yesterday unidentified persons fired several bullets at the house of Zivko Kolega, an HDZ deputy at the Sabor's House of Counties and one of the leading HDZ officials in Zadar. The police discovered several cartridge cases on the floor in the house and established that one bullet had broken through the window glass of the living room.
