PETLOVAC VISIT VILLAGE AFTER 55 YEARS PETLOVAC, July 29 (Hina) - About 300 former residents of the village of Petlovac in north-eastern Croatia of German nationality and their families on Saturday visited the village after 55 years.
With the arrival of the communist authority in 1945, a large number of Petlovac Germans were expelled from or fled the village in fear of retaliation. Today, after more than half a century, they visited their homes and the local cemetery. The former Petlovac residents were welcomed by municipal representatives and the Association of Danube River Basin Germans. Djakovo-Srijem bishop Marin Srakic conducted mass at the village church.
