ZAGREB, June 27 (Hina) - There is at the moment no social dialogue between the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) and the government, SSSH president Davor Juric told reporters in Zagreb on Tuesday. He said SSSH

ZAGREB, June 27 (Hina) - There is at the moment no social dialogue
between the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia
(SSSH) and the government, SSSH president Davor Juric told
reporters in Zagreb on Tuesday.
He said SSSH had forwarded five different motions to the government
since May, receiving no feedback at all. "The government hasn't
even answered our question on the implementation of its promise of
regular salary payments," he added.
Juric said SSSH was lately unable to establish dialogue with
employers' representatives either.
The last direct talks with government representatives were held on
April 11, when it was agreed SSSH's branch trade unions would settle
issues through direct negotiations with competent ministries.
According to Juric, correct relations have been established only
with the Tourism Ministry.
He assessed the government had begun avoiding direct negotiations
with SSSH fearing reaction from other trade unions, as well as due
to media allegations on Juric's political ties with the prime
minister. Juric refuted allegations of ties with the ruling
coalition, pointing out SSSH would remain autonomous and continue
insisting on social dialogue.
"I reiterate that social dialogue has no alternative in the present
economic and political situation, because the country's political
stability is the condition for implementing all economic and social
reforms," said Juric.
SSSH is ready to take radical action to urge the government to
social dialogue, a matter the SSSH Council will decide on July 6.
"Come to your senses," Juric told the government and employers, but
indicated there would be no large-scale protests before the end of
the summer tourist season.
SSSH in the meantime once again suggested that the government start
resolving the unemployment issue by reducing the working week to
32-37 hours. SSSH is willing to offer experience from western
countries.
