ZAGREB, June 26 (Hina) - The currency rate of the kuna in May continued a mild increase in value in relation to the euro which began in March. The kuna-euro appreciation in May was the most marked to date, 0.34 percent in terms of
values at month's end. Over the last three months, the kuna almost entirely compensated a 0.67 decrease in value in relation to the euro recorded in January and February, with March's appreciation amounting to 0.04 percent, April's to 0.22, and May's to 0.34 percent, the Croatian National Bank (HNB) said in its June bulletin. The drop in value of the kuna in relation to the euro in this year's first five months totalled 0.06 percent when compared to the value at the end of December 1999. One foreign currency auction was held in May at which HNB bought
EUR79.1 million. According to HNB, the amount is 3.4 times higher
than the value of banking support at the foreign currency market in
April.
