ZAGREB, June 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic received a delegation of the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) on Monday.The delegation informed Mesic about the problems they were encountering and their plans for future
activities, especially regarding the development of civil society. The President promised us his full support, HHO president Izet Aganovic said. Speaking about last week's incident in Petrinja, 50km south-east of Zagreb, when placards headlined 'They Destroyed Petrinja' appeared in the town streets, Aganovic said President Mesic contacted Interior Minister Sime Lucin after the police had failed to react to the incident. Lucin promised that he would investigate the case and inform President Mesic why measures had not been taken if conditions for criminal prosecution existed. The placards, which were not signed, contained a list with the names of more than one hundred persons for whom it

the Serbian aggression they attacked Petrinja.
Asked whether there were any other concrete cases of human rights
violation, Aganovic said the delegation informed the President
about HHO activities and the President promised that he would
instruct all structures of the interior and defence ministries to
help the HHO to be as efficient as possible.
Aganovic said the delegation also informed Mesic about their
intention to visit Veljun (the town where a group of Croats recently
prevented a Serb commemoration of World War II victims) on June 22 -
the Day of Anti-Fascist Struggle.
