ZAGREB, June 19 (Hina) - The Stability Pact steering group for
refugee return will meet in Zagreb on Tuesday to consider results of
the Brussels donors' conference and try to motivate donors to
financially support the return process, an official with the
Croatian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Vladimir Drobnjak, national coordinator for the Stability Pact,
told reporters the meeting offered Croatia, as the country hosting
the event, the opportunity to use its current favourable
international political standing.
The meeting will be chaired by Hans Koschnik, chairman of the
Stability Pact steering committee for refugee return, who on April
26, during a visit to Zagreb, announced that the international
community would gladly help Croatia because of its good prospects.
Drobnjak said it was hard to guess what interest potential donors
would demonstrate. Some countries want to help on a bilateral
level, some want to direct funds into a joint foundation for return,
which was recently established by the Croatian government, he
added.
Asked about the possibility for Croatia to seek loans for refugee
return, Drobnjak said that 'classic commercial loans' were out of
the question. However, favourable development loans for areas of
special state concern are possible, he added.
Participating in tomorrow's event will be representatives from all
EU member-countries, potential donors, officials with the Office
of the High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, UNHCR, and
Donald Kursch, main deputy to the Pact's coordinator Bodo Hombach,
in charge of gathering financial assistance for the region.
