COMMISSION PROBING IN 'VECERNJI LIST' SALE ASKS TO PROLONG ITS WORK

ZAGREB, June 14 (Hina) - Croatia's parliamentary commission of inquiry, set up to clarify circumstances of the sale of the "Vecernji List" daily, has requested the official interpretation of relevant laws after Ivic Pasalic recently declined to say who told him that, in the Office of President Stjepan Mesic, transcripts were falsified about conversations the late President Franjo Tudjman had held with his aides. According to provisions on commissions of inquiry, a witness who refuses to give important information to such a commission, can be fined by 50,000 to 1,000,000 kuna or be sentenced to prison from six months to five years. The parliamentary commission asked the House of Representatives legislation committee to interpret relevant parts of the law.
