LONDON, May 4 (Hina) - Great Britain strongly welcomed steps which
the Croatian Government made in its attempts to achieve European
standards which the British Government fully supported, British
Foreign Secretary Robin Cook said Monday after the talks with
Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan in London.
We warmly welcome brave steps the Croatian Government is
undertaking in order for Croatia to achieve contemporary European
standards. Europe's response to this must be quick and generous,
Cook said.
He added that since his visit to Zagreb in March, Croatia made
further progress in fulfilling its obligations regarding the
return of refugees, cooperation with the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and the implementation of the
Dayton Agreement.
Croatia can find a ready friend and an ally in Great Britain in its
attempt to join European integration, Cook stressed, and announced
Britain's firm support to Croatia's joining the Partnership for
Peace programme at the NATO ministers' meeting in late May.
When asked whether Great Britain would financially help changes in
Croatia, Cook said his country already supported several projects
within the Stability Pact and it would continue to support projects
involving Croatia.
Croatian Premier Racan, who is heading the Croatian delegation
during the three-day visit to London, thanked Cook and the British
Government for their support to Croatia's joining the Partnership
for Peace, the World Trade Organisation and approaching the
European Union.
