Georgian parliament chief says completion of Croatia's EU entry talks important for Georgia

ZAGREB, July 6 (Hina) - The successful finalisation of Croatia's European Union accession negotiations is also important for countries such as Georgia, said Georgian Parliament Speaker David Bakradze after the talks with his Croatian counterpart Luka Bebic in Zagreb on Wednesday.

Bakradze, who was on an official visit to Croatia, congratulated his Croatian host on the successful completion of the European Union membership talks adding that this was an important step not only for Croatia but also for creating greater stability in the region.

It is important for countries such as Georgia since we a transition country aspiring to European integration. In this regard, Croatia is a role-model for how to transform a country that could become a full member of European institutions and the European political system, the Georgian official said at a joint news conference he held with Bebic.

Bebic said that Croatia had reaffirmed its intention to develop bilateral relations, notably in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration, and matters pertaining to NATO and the EU.

Bakradze thanked Croatia for its strong support in NATO , expressing hope that with Croatia's admission to the EU, Georgia would get one more friendly voice in that integration process.

The two officials said that Croatia and Georgia would lile to develop their bilateral relations whereby their parliamentary cooperation could facilitate those efforts.

They agreed that there were great unused opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation.

Bebic said that Croatia supported Georgia's efforts to ensure peaceful resolutions of disputes in its region, also supporting the territorial integrity of that Caucasian country.

This is very important for us and we thank Croatia for that firm position on the matter, the Georgian parliament's head said.

Later in the day he is scheduled to meet Croatian President Ivo Josipovic.
