SARAJEVO, April 3 (Hina) - The command of the Stabilisation Forces
in Bosnia-Herzegovina (SFOR) said Monday the transfer of
apprehended Momcilo Krajisnik to The Hague was in progress.
Krajisnik will be tried before the Hague-based International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for war crimes
and genocide against Moslems and Croats during the war in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
In a statement issued Monday the SFOR said Krajisnik had been
arrested Monday morning by members of the South East division under
French command, and there had been no casualties among the NATO-led
troops.
Bosnian Serb Republika Srpska Radio reported Krajisnik had been
arrested around 3am in Pale where he was staying in his parents'
home.
His father Sretko allegedly told reporters SFOR troops had blown up
the house door with dynamite and Krajisnik had surrendered without
resisting.
The apprehension of this close and renowned associate of Bosnian
Serb war lord Radovan Karadzic had been applauded by the US Envoy in
charge of the implementation of the Dayton Agreement, Robert
Frowick, who is visiting Sarajevo.
A senior official of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) and official at
the Bosnian Parliament, Mirko Banjac, told a news conference in
Banja Luka Krajisnik's apprehension was the cause for fear for all
those who had been members of the Republika Srpska Assembly during
the war.
Krajisnik has been a member of the SDS leadership since the
establishment of the party in 1990.
After elections held the same year he was elected chairman of the
then Socialist Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina Assembly and had
become known as a "master of procedure" completely blocking the
passing of decisions important for Bosnia's future.
Upon the breaking out of the war in the country, Krajisnik had taken
on the duty as president of the self-pronounced Bosnian Serb
parliament in Pale and remained in office until elections in 1996
when he was elected Serb member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina
Presidency, in line with the Dayton constitution.
His two-year mandate in the Presidency remains marked with numerous
obstructions.
During the 1998 elections for the Bosnian presidency Krajisnik was
beat by hair width by Zivko Radisic who had appeared in alliance
with Milorad Dodik and Biljana Plavsic.
Subsequently Krajisnik's public appearances were less frequent but
continued to regularly participate in the work of the SDS
leadership being influential from the shadows and communicating
with Karadzic on a regular basis.
The Bosnian media frequently speculated that Krajisnik had with
money amassed during the war bought land and a house near Andjelovci
in Serbia where he intended to move permanently while he sold his
property in Zabrdje near Sarajevo.
