ZAGREB, April 1 (Hina) - A member of the parliament, Vesna Skare-
Ozbolt on Saturday forwarded an open letter to Croatian Premier
Ivica Racan calling on him to try to help solve the problem of the
Cibalae bank equally attentively as he and the Government did in the
case of the Istarska bank.
Skare-Ozbolt wrote that the Croatian National Bank (HNB) failed to
control the banking system, and assessed that Croatia is about to
face a new crisis in the banking system, following the HNB's
decisions regarding the aforementioned two banks and their
blockade.
The Cibalae bank is a regional bank in eastern Croatia with
management offices in Vinkovci.
Vukovar-Sirmium County has the highest unemployment rate of some 33
percent, privatisation has not been conducted there and the status
of the town of Vukovar has not yet been defined, said Skare-Ozbolt,
a former high-ranking state official of the then ruling party
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). In addition, she complained of the
"restrictive financial policy" of the current Government towards
easternmost Croatian areas.
That region is coming closer to the total economic collapse and will
be economically and psychologically devastated as well as
politically unstable unless the Government shows interest and
offers help, she cautioned.
