CEPIN, March 23 (Hina) - Between 10am and 2pm on Thursday, farmers from eastern Croatia blocked the road Osijek-Djakovo, warning about unpaid debts and protesting against the government's draft budget for 2000. An association of
farmers from Slavonija and Baranja believes the 10-percent increase of budgetary funds for agriculture does not mean anything because of the increased prices of production material, oil, and oil products. The farmers demand that the government pay incentives for the growing of soy, sugar beet, and sunflower, as well as the rest of last year's incentives. They also request that sugar and oil factories in Cepin, where they blocked the road, pay for the sugar beet and sunflower they had handed over. If their requests are not met in the next ten days, the farmers said they would block several roads in eastern Slavonia.(hina) jn rml
