OPATIJA, Feb 2 (Hina) - Damir Kajin, a Vice President of the Istrian Democratic Alliance (IDS), on Thursday said the privatisation of the "Plava Laguna" company which includes hotels and restaurants in the coastal town of Porec, made
it possible for laundered money to be returned in Croatia. "Former authorities were adept at performing such criminal acts, and it (the privatisation of Plava Laguna) was continuation of its collusion with individuals," Kajin told a news conference in Opatija. He maintained that besides the act on money laundering prevention, Croatia needed an act which regulates the transfer of foreign capital and controls its sources, a practice already adopted by western countries. It is unacceptable for Istria County that the Privredna Bank Zagreb sold 16.4 percent of shares of 'Plava Laguna' to the Liechtenstein-based company of Andronik Luksic without any public invitation for bid
OPATIJA, Feb 2 (Hina) - Damir Kajin, a Vice President of the Istrian
Democratic Alliance (IDS), on Thursday said the privatisation of
the "Plava Laguna" company which includes hotels and restaurants in
the coastal town of Porec, made it possible for laundered money to
be returned in Croatia.
"Former authorities were adept at performing such criminal acts,
and it (the privatisation of Plava Laguna) was continuation of its
collusion with individuals," Kajin told a news conference in
Opatija.
He maintained that besides the act on money laundering prevention,
Croatia needed an act which regulates the transfer of foreign
capital and controls its sources, a practice already adopted by
western countries.
It is unacceptable for Istria County that the Privredna Bank Zagreb
sold 16.4 percent of shares of 'Plava Laguna' to the Liechtenstein-
based company of Andronik Luksic without any public invitation for
bids and under unknown conditions. Subsequently, the bank enabled
that company to buy the rest of shares so that over 25 percent of
shares of 'Plava Laguna' were sold, contrary to rules on the take-
over of those hotels and issuance of securities, Kajin said.
The IDS party supported Istria County authorities in their demand
forwarded to the recently-appointed government led by Premier
Ivica Racan, asking them to annul the current ownership structure
of 'Plava Laguna' and prevent, thus, almost forcible take-over of
this firm in the Istrian resort.
