privileges or in an illegal way.
"A whole series of accusations and fabrications about the great
privileges and wealth of the Tudjman family and the illegal
acquisition of property and tax evasion appeared in the media
during electoral campaigns in the last several months. For example,
it was stated that 'President Tudjman owns US$700 million', and 'a
house in the United States'; the Belgrade-based newspaper
'Politika express' was quoted as saying that 'President Tudjman
bought a house in Nice' back in 1992; it was stated that he was not
paying taxes during his mandate (Dr Branko Horvat); it was also
alleged that members of the Tudjman family acquired immovable
assets in Croatia illegally, that they own a dozen shops and
restaurants in Zagreb as well as yachts, planes, hotels, factories,
fancy vehicles and the like," Mrs. Tudjman said in her letter.
The letter was accompanied with a detailed, 59-page list of assets
owned by Ankica Tudjman, her late husband, and members of the
Tudjman family.
