Serbia transfers back to Croatia part of cultural heritage taken during war

ZAGREB, June 15 (Hina) - Several items from Croatia's cultural heritage were given back to Croatia during a two-day meeting at the Novi Sad-based Conservation Institute of a Serbian-Croatian task force in charge of the restitution of cultural artefacts that were taken from Croatia during the Homeland Defence War.

As a result of the meeting which ended on Wednesday, seven icons from the Serb Orthodox Church of St. George in the eastern Croatian village of Bobota, ceramic stoves from the Eltz manor house, five silver frames for icons from the Krka monastery, and a list of items that remain to be restored to Croatia were delivered to the Croatian delegation.

From 2001 to 2011 Serbia and Montenegro transferred back to Croatia 25,252 items from the holdings of museums, galleries and churches.

A part of the museum material and documentation was transferred back from the Bosnian Serb entity's archives in Banja Luka to the Jasenovac memorial park thanks to the assistance of the U.S. authorities, the Croatian Culture Ministry said in a press release.
