Representatives on Thursday passed a law on the salaries of state officials. The Lower House failed to adopt the Croatian Government's amendment in line with which the salaries of state officials would amount to 85 percent of their average wage in 1999. This means that in accordance with the new law, the salaries of state officials will be formed on the basis of their entire average wage in 1999. For example, the wage of the President of the Republic would amount to DM5,300, the Parliament Speaker, the Prime Minister, and the President of the Constitutional Court would receive DM4,550, ministers' wages would amount to DM3,750, while MPs would receive DM3,175.
