SARAJEVO/ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - The Croat member of Bosnia-
Herzegovina's three man Presidency, Ante Jelavic, has advocated a
move that authorities of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina be
transferred to the state of Bosnia-Herzegovina, but authorities of
cantons within the Croat-Moslem Federation should not be changed.
Jelavic presented this idea on Tuesday during his talks with the
commander of international peace-keeping forces in Bosnia (SFOR),
U.S. General Ronald Adams.
"We advocate the implementation of the Dayton (peace accords), as I
maintain that the equality of Croats is guaranteed within the
Dayton-created Bosnia-Herzegovina," read a statement issued by
Jelavic's office.
At the level of central bodies of Bosnia-Herzegovina we have
parity, consensus and rotation as protection of our interests. We,
however, have not it at the level of the Federation, and such
situation reflects a lack of consistency in the political system,
Jelavic said in the statement.
Therefore we are ready to support the process of transfer of powers
from the Federation to Bosnia-Herzegovina, but cantons' powers
should not be touched, Jelavic told General Adams.
According to the Dayton accords, Bosnia-Herzegovina consists of
two entities - the Croat-Moslem Federation and the Bosnian Serb
entity (officially called the Republic of Srpska).
