ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - A new era in ties between Bosnia-Herzegovina
and Croatia is ahead of us, instigated by a process of
democratisation in Croatia, wishes of the public as well as by the
pressure of the international community, said Bosnian Ambassador
to Croatia, Hasan Muratovic.
"Whatever happens in Bosnia has an impact on Croatia and vice-
versa. Therefore our inter-state relations are often very
complicated," Muratovic said on Wednesday, at a lecture entitled
"Are the Relations Between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia
Changing?".
The Ambassador said the overall relationship in the last ten years
had been burdened with political goals.
Muratovic asserted that forces in Croatia that had advocated the
division of Bosnia had not abandoned this aim until the recent
Croatian elections.
He cited non-recognition of Moslems (Bosniaks) as a national
minority in Croatia as one of the problems that rendered the
promotion of ties more difficult.
The diplomat added that in the past year significant steps forward
were made with the signing of the Border Agreement and the work on a
contract on special relations.
The programme of the new Croatian Government and the wish of both
Zagreb and Sarajevo to enter NATO and the EU instilled optimism in
Muratovic regarding the change in the relations between the two
neighbouring countries.
Muratovic expected that after the harmonisation of the political
relationship, economic, cultural and scientific ties could be
furthered.
