ZAGREB, Jan 19 (Hina) - "The presidential campaign is unfair
because foreign capital has got involved," independent
presidential candidate Zvonimir Separovic told reporters in Zagreb
on Wednesday.
Reproaching the media for not being fair in the pre-electoral
campaign, Separovic asserted the United States interfered in the
elections, like in Slovakia and Panama in the past.
"(U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, William) Montgomery deserves to be
told he is 'persona non grata' because he behaves as if he were in a
banana republic," said Separovic, adding the situation was
detrimental to democracy.
Commenting on the presentation of presidential candidates in the
media, Separovic reproached "Obiteljski Radio" for airing
candidate Drazen Budisa's commercial during Separovic's hour-long
presentation.
He also mentioned "Radio 101" where he said he was given no
possibility to hear a positive reaction from listeners.
Speaking of "Nacional" weekly, Separovic said it was a "disgusting
paper" which alongside his photograph stated his presidential
campaign was financed from Canadian accounts, and that these
accounts also contained part of Croatian state budget funds.
He invited presidential candidate Stipe Mesic to say what he stated
at a secret hearing at The Hague war crimes tribunal, and to state
why he had gone and if he would send Croatian generals there.
Separovic asked presidential candidate Mate Granic why he ascribed
to himself credit for Croatia's international recognition when at
the time, he stated, Granic was collecting medical material.
Separovic asserted The Hague-based International Criminal
Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia was absolutely politicised and
intended to criminalise "Flash" and "Storm", military-police
operations with which Croatia in 1995 liberated parts of its
territory occupied by the Serb aggressor.
Commenting on January 3 parliamentary elections, he said Croatia's
ship had bent to the left and was now in danger of overturning on
this left side.
