ZAGREB, Jan 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Employers' Association on Thursday invited all presidential candidates to demand that the Government postpone the date of the first round of presidential elections, which was to be held on Monday,
January 24, until Sunday, January 23, 2000. They also demanded that the second round of the elections be held on January 6, and not January 7, 2000, as it was scheduled. The HUP believes that proclaiming two, and most probably three election days, a holiday is inappropriate in the current economy situation in Croatia. In their opinion, such decisions could cause damage and losses greater than DM0.5 billion. The HUP proposed to trade unions to, due to a serious situation in the economy, jointly invite employees and employers to try to organise the work in places where such a thing is it is necessary, namely in order to fulfil obligations towards foreign countries. ZAGREB, Jan 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Employers' Association on
Thursday invited all presidential candidates to demand that the
Government postpone the date of the first round of presidential
elections, which was to be held on Monday, January 24, until Sunday,
January 23, 2000.
They also demanded that the second round of the elections be held on
January 6, and not January 7, 2000, as it was scheduled.
The HUP believes that proclaiming two, and most probably three
election days, a holiday is inappropriate in the current economy
situation in Croatia. In their opinion, such decisions could cause
damage and losses greater than DM0.5 billion.
The HUP proposed to trade unions to, due to a serious situation in
the economy, jointly invite employees and employers to try to
organise the work in places where such a thing is it is necessary,
namely in order to fulfil obligations towards foreign countries.
The work should be organised in such a way that the right to vote is
not limited not obstructed for anyone.
In line with the above, the HUP decided that those two days will be
working days for all its employees.
