International symposiums and promotions of Marulic's works will be
held in Zagreb, Marulic's birth-place Split, Berlin and Rome.
Split is to host the central event of these celebrations in the end
of April when an international symposium on Marko Marulic as a
European Humanist gathers over 30 scholars from Croatia and other
countries.
The chief organiser of these events, the Centre for Studying Marko
Marulic and the Humanist circle called "Marulianum" on Wednesday
announced that two exhibitions about Marulic's books and
manuscripts as well as about the art in Split during the Marulic era
would be staged in Split and Zagreb this year.
In May a monument to Marulic will be unveiled in the German capital
of Berlin. The monument has been made by a sculptor, Slavomir
Drinkovic.
The celebration of the birthday is scheduled for 18 August in the
Palace Papalic in Split where Marulic and his fellow Humanists used
to gather.
Proceedings of symposiums held in 1998 and 1999 in Rome and Split on
Marulic as a Croatian poet and Catholic Humanist will be promoted in
Rome in a few months.
In 2001, there will be celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the
creation of the first Croatian epic "Judith" written by Marulic.
