ZAGREB, Dec 28 (Hina) - Croatian Power Industry (HEP) director Ivo Covic said at a news conference on Friday the HEP would not increase the price of electricity in the next three to four months. However, the current price of
electricity is not enough for the realisation of the company's necessary investments, which is why the prices of electricity will have to be somewhat adjusted in the course of next year, he said. The company will end this business year with a profit of some 10 million kuna, Covic said. The reduction of operation costs will continue in 2002 as well. Personnel costs in 2001 have been reduced by 200 million kuna, Covic said. The annual power consumption in 2001 has increased by 4.4 percent as against the previous year, which is a result of increased consumption in households but also indicates that the economy has started picking up, Covic said. The HEP's production potential will be enough for covering
Croatia's needs, but due to economising the share of exports this
year will reach 25%.
An independent power market is an important element of state
independence, Covic said.
