LONDON: CROATIAN HEAD OF STATE ON TERRORISM

LONDON, Dec 17 (Hina) - The democratic world must temporarily agree to the limitations of democracy in the struggle against global terrorism and in the process of rooting out terrorism, Croatian President Stipe Mesic said in London on Monday. Mesic, who arrived in London fro a four-day official visit to Great Britain spoke at the royal institute for international relations on "Democracy and War Against Global Terrorism." The democratic world needs to root out the causes of terrorism, such as poverty, Mesic said. The Croatian President said the September 11 terrorist attack United States was the attack on the foundations of the democratic world. Croatia's head of state said the crucial elements of democracy was the role of parliament, the three branches of authority, the rule- of-law and the control mechanisms. He stressed that democracy and the developed world needed to defeat terrorism not only in military sense but also to fight its causes. (hina) it
