ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - History will best evaluate the role and work of the first Croatian president, the late Franjo Tudjman, after a certain time has passed, incumbent President Stipe Mesic said on Sunday. "Franjo Tudjman had good
and bad sides and moves, the best being the decision to call a referendum on Croatia's independence," Mesic said on the second anniversary of Tudjman's death. Speaking of Tudjman's bad sides, Mesic mentioned the bad policy towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, then isolationist policy towards Europe, and the wrong estimate of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's possibility of creating a Greater Serbia. "The steps following that wrong estimate were unfeasible, for instance the expansion of Croatia's borders," said Mesic. Tudjman will be remembered as the first Croatian president in whose time Croatia gained independence, concluded Mesic.(hina) ha
