HDZ MPS ASK FOR VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN LINIC

ZAGREB, Nov 26 (Hina) - MPs of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) have suggested that the parliament consider a vote of no confidence in Vice-Premier Slavko Linic, accusing him of politically threatening the party, making untruthful value judgements about the HDZ's policy and marking the HDZ as an ideological and political enemy, contrary to his powers and position. Such an attitude towards a parliamentary party disqualifies Linic from the government, reads the motion, signed by 40 HDZ MPs and sent to the parliament speaker. The MPs claim that the described Linic's acts have been intensifying since the beginning of 2001, and back their claims by citing Linic's interviews to the Nedjeljna Dalmacija daily, the Croatian Television, Hina, etc. The HDZ stressed that it was false and insulting, not only for the HDZ, but for the Croatian people, to claim that the ten years during which the HDZ was in power was "a tragedy for the citizens of Croatia". The MPs said Linic's accusations that "the HDZ has left nothing but looted property, disorder and debts" were a notorious historical untruth and an attempt to revise and falsify recent history. To top it all off, the HDZ says, after a reporter's statement that he had "exasperated the HDZ with his claim that its rule brought more damage to Croatia than the Serb aggression," Linic said this was true, and that "the damage the HDZ authorities caused in ten years is significantly more extensive than war damage".
