ALBANIA: POSITIVE REACTIONS TO KOSOVO GENERAL ELECTION

TIRANA, Nov 19 (Hina) - The Kosovo election has shown that residents and political forces there are mature enough for democratic processes, establishing and leading state institutions, Albanian Prime Minister Ilir Meta said on Monday. Speaking on behalf of his government, Meta expressed willingness to cooperate with the democratic institutions to be set up in Kosovo after Sunday's general election. The winners of the ballot are the citizens of Kosovo, coexistence, and Kosovo's democratic and European future, said Meta. He applauded the minorities for voting, particularly the Serb community, which he said had decided to actively participate in the establishment of new democratic institutions in the southern Yugoslav province. The Albanian government is confident Kosovo's parliament, government and president will cooperate with the international community in establishing a democratic society in which all citizens will have their rights and freedoms guaranteed. Albania's ruling Socialist Party said the Kosovo election represented victory for the entire people of Kosovo. The president of the opposition's Albanian Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, said the Kosovo election was a big day in the history of all Albanians and an example for the other nations in the Balkans.
