ZAGREB, Nov 14 (Hina) - The Croatian government is to discuss a draft budget for 2002 and a set of related documents and bills at a session on Thursday. According to unofficial sources, the 2002 state budget will amount to 74 billion
kuna (approx. USD8.86 billion). It is expected the funds of most ministries will be reduced by seven to 10 percent. The government will also discuss a document called Croatia's Development Priorities 2002 - 2004, and a package of bills on excise taxes. The government will suggest that as of next year, when customs tariffs for cars imported from the European Union are revoked, state revenues coming from that source be compensated for by increasing excise taxes. One can also expect that excise taxes on beer will rise as well,
whereas 50 lipa (instead of the current 40 lipa) would be set aside
from excise taxes on oil products for road construction.
Two more bills are connected with the draft budget for 2002 - a bill
on the establishment of a development and employment fund, which
would be allocated five billion kuna, and a bill on the
establishment of a regional development fund.
