SUPREME COURT CONFIRMS VERDICTS FOR SIX SERB WAR CRIMES SUSPECTS

ZADAR, Nov 14 (Hina) - The Croatian Supreme Court has confirmed the verdicts imposed by the Zadar County Court on six Serbs who were found guilty of war crimes committed against civilians in Skabrnja in 1991, thus making the verdicts final, sources at the Zadar County Court said. With its ruling of November 7, the Supreme Court confirmed 20-year prison sentences for Goran Opacic, Bosko Drazic, Zoran Jankovic, Mirko Draca, Djuro Kosovic and Nada Pupovac. The convicts were in a group of 18 Serbs who had been sentenced for war crimes against Skabrnja residents in late 1995. All but one were sentenced in absentia. An attorney for the six appealed against the ruling of the court of first instance with the Supreme Court, which last week rejected the appeal as unfounded, making the verdicts final. The verdicts of the other 12 indictees became valid in 1998.(hina) sb rml
