YUGOSLAV STATE OFFICIALS ON MONTENEGRO REFERENDUM

BELGRADE, Oct 27 (Hina) - Yugoslav state officials from the ruling DOS coalition have unanimously supported a decision on organising a referendum on the status of Montenegro, stressing any decision the Montenegrin people make must be respected. Dragoljub Micunovic, speaker of the lower house of the Yugoslav parliament and leader of the Democratic Centre, a DOS member-party, believes the referendum in Yugoslavia's smaller republic will bring a final solution to the current uncertain situation in the federation. Yugoslav Interior Minister and Democratic Party vice-president Zoran Zivkovic expects the referendum will be held within "a reasonable deadline." Zivkovic believes Montenegrins will vote for the federation and "pragmatically chose the path to Europe running via the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia." Yugoslavia's Minister for Minorities, Rasim Ljajic, believes the most dangerous option would be organising the referendum without the consent of the Montenegrin Opposition. He thinks that before organising a referendum, one has to solve the issue of the majority which is necessary for the vote to be legally and politically valid. (hina) rml
