ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - Croatia's Foreign Minister Tonino Picula said on Friday Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi's decision to confer a decoration on the last Italian administration of the central Adriatic seaport of Zadar was
more than contentious and contrary to previously good Zagreb-Rome relations. Speaking on Croatian Television's evening newscast, Picula voiced hope the incident would be settled on the bilateral level and that Italy would show a certain degree of responsibility. "The grading of our diplomatic reaction will depend on the Italy's future conduct in connection with this issue," said the minister. "In any case, it should be clearly stated that Croatia does not consent to reinterpretations of Europe's past as it would truly open a dilemma as to whether we interpret Europe's future in the same way," Picula said.(hina) ha sb
