Neven Mimica will next week acquaint the parliament with the
content of a Stabilisation and Association Agreement between
Croatia and the European Union, to be signed in Luxembourg on
October 29, the parliament's Committee on European Integration
concluded Wednesday.
Minister Mimica spoke before the committee about frequent
inquiries in the Croatian public on whether the Agreement enables
individual approach to the EU or envisages this process within a
regional institutional concept.
"Integration into the EU is our priority, but if it becomes obvious
that Croatia's admission is conditional on any form of association
with Southeast Europe, Croatia will respond by discontinuing the
process of integration into the EU," Mimica said.
He also dismissed claims in some Croatian papers that the council in
charge of implementing the SAA would be superior to the Croatian
government, explaining the council was a joint Croatia-EU body
which had to make all decisions by consensus.
