ZAGREB, Oct 15 (Hina) - Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic on Monday received the Croatian Helsinki Committee's head, Zarko Puhovski, to discuss activities this committee (HHO) was taking ahead of the celebration of the Human Rights
Day on 10 December and an annual gathering of the International Helsinki Federation, scheduled for 15-18 November in Zagreb. President Mesic accepted his sponsorship over this event, Puhovski told reporters after the meeting. He added that they considered possibilities for promoting cooperation between this non-governmental organisation and the President of Republic. According to Puhovski, the enhancement of such cooperation can help defuse the situation created by bids to investigate war crimes committed by the Croatian party and lead to discussions on this issue, which would be based on facts rather than on emotions.(hina) sb ms
