ZAGREB/SPLIT, Oct 16 (Hina) - Mirko Condic, president of the national Headquarters for the protection of Homeland War values, read at a news conference on Tuesday a proclamation calling on Croatian citizens to go to Zagreb's central
Ban Jelacic Square on October 20 and participate in a rally of "citizens who have been humiliated, cheated and stripped of their rights," and urge the authorities to either fulfil their promises or step down. "This authority is doing the opposite of what it announced in the electoral campaign, and it has thus lost legitimacy," reads the proclamation, adding, "the government is walking on the border of lawfulness by having violated the Constitution on a number of occasions, it has lost its democratic image and brought us closer to dictatorship." ZAGREB/SPLIT, Oct 16 (Hina) - Mirko Condic, president of the
national Headquarters for the protection of Homeland War values,
read at a news conference on Tuesday a proclamation calling on
Croatian citizens to go to Zagreb's central Ban Jelacic Square on
October 20 and participate in a rally of "citizens who have been
humiliated, cheated and stripped of their rights," and urge the
authorities to either fulfil their promises or step down.
"This authority is doing the opposite of what it announced in the
electoral campaign, and it has thus lost legitimacy," reads the
proclamation, adding, "the government is walking on the border of
lawfulness by having violated the Constitution on a number of
occasions, it has lost its democratic image and brought us closer to
dictatorship."
The Headquarters dismisses Prime Minister Ivica Racan's claim that
it is militant and advocating violence and the language of hatred.
The authorities have also been accused of having made a traitorous
border deal with Slovenia, trampling on the pride of the Croat man,
instigating hatred against soldiers and the Homeland War, giving
false information about war events, with the aim of awakening the
feeling of guilt among Croats, the ultimate goal being "a brotherly
reunion in the Balkans."
Condic told reporters the Headquarters, as the organiser, and the
Croatian Disabled War Veterans Association (HVIDR-a), as a co-
organiser of the rally, have received support from 17 different
associations, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Croatian Party
of Rights (HSP), Croatian Christian Democratic Union (HKDU),
Croatian Pure Party of Rights (HCSP), as well as some members of the
Democratic Centre (DC), Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) and
the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS).
