The government has entrusted competent ministries to initiate,
i.e., complete as soon as possible the process of Croatia's joining
conventions and other instruments of international law for the
prevention of terrorism, particularly within the framework of the
United Nations and the Council of Europe.
Croatia has accepted an invitation to participate in a European
conference in Brussels on October 20 this year thus joining in EU
activities aimed at fighting terrorism, including preparations for
the gradual adjustment of its legislation to adequate EU
regulations.
In an effort to intensify cooperation in the area of the judiciary
and internal affairs with neighbouring countries through regional
initiatives, the Croatian government has been taking adequate
steps to make the prevention of terrorism a priority task, thus
contributing to peace, stability and regional cooperation.
With the aim of maintaining citizens' safety, competent bodies and
services of the Republic of Croatia are taking preventive security
measures, including tightened control on border crossings and
airports as well as the protection of important buildings.
The Croatian government today adopted a Statement on the Fight
Against Terrorism, strongly condemning once again the recent
devastating terrorist attacks in the United States.
The Ivica Racan Cabinet has expressed its determination to continue
offering its active contribution to the international community's
bids to combat terrorism, within a global anti-terrorist
coalition.
The Croatian government repudiates the collective responsibility
of a race, nation or religion for terrorism, and refutes bids to
equate terrorist groups with, in this case, Islamic and Arabic
peoples and communities, reads the Statement, adopted at a regular
government session.
Zagreb regularly exchanges information with the United States'
Administration, which may be useful in the detection of terrorist
activities, the document reads.
