ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - The Croatian government has welcomed the U.N. Security Council's Resolution 1373 (2001) as an international platform for fighting terrorism. #L# The government has entrusted competent ministries to initiate, i.e., complete as soon as possible the process of Croatia's joining conventions and other instruments of international law for the prevention of terrorism, particularly within the framework of the United Nations and the Council of Europe. Croatia has accepted an invitation to participate in a European conference in Brussels on October 20 this year thus joining in EU activities aimed at fighting terrorism, including preparations for the gradual adjustment of its legislation to adequate EU regulations. In an effort to intensify cooperation in the area of the judiciary and internal affairs with neighbouring countries through regional initiatives, the Croatian government has been taking adequate steps to make the prevention of terrorism a priority task, thus contributing to peace, stability and regional cooperation. With the aim of maintaining citizens' safety, competent bodies and services of the Republic of Croatia are taking preventive security measures, including tightened control on border crossings and airports as well as the protection of important buildings. The Croatian government today adopted a Statement on the Fight Against Terrorism, strongly condemning once again the recent devastating terrorist attacks in the United States. The Ivica Racan Cabinet has expressed its determination to continue offering its active contribution to the international community's bids to combat terrorism, within a global anti-terrorist coalition. The Croatian government repudiates the collective responsibility of a race, nation or religion for terrorism, and refutes bids to equate terrorist groups with, in this case, Islamic and Arabic peoples and communities, reads the Statement, adopted at a regular government session. Zagreb regularly exchanges information with the United States' Administration, which may be useful in the detection of terrorist activities, the document reads. (hina) sb rml
