ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - A group of 10 Croatian Army officers on
Sunday flew from Zagreb to Sierra Leone on a one-year-long peace
mission of the UN in that western African country.#L#
Representatives of the Croatian military, the defence ministry,
the UN and the officers' families saw them off at the Pleso
airport.
This is the third group of Croatian officers who stay one year in
Sierra Leone taking part in the UN peace mission.
The officers who left Zagreb today will replace their colleagues
who have completed their one-year-long mission and who are to
return to the homeland in a few days.
These Croatian officers are part of UN unarmed observers who
monitor the implementation of a peace agreement, signed in July
1999 following the nine-year-long civil war in that African
country.
During his recent meeting with these officers, Defence Minister
Jozo Rados has said that Croatia will be engaged in other UN peace
missions in coming years and announced that a special unit of the
Croatian Army will be constituted by the end of this year whose task
will be the participation in such missions.
