ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - Contrary to other countries or some of its neighbours, Croatia currently has only three indigenous products of protected geographical origin: Slavonski Kulen (paprika-flavoured sausage from the eastern region

There is, however, no permanent control of their standards nor a
register of their manufacturers.
Croatia has drawn up a legal framework, similar to the one in the
European Union, which guarantees the authenticity and originality
of the products.
What is lacking is a complete presentation of the situation in this
segment and the stimulation of potential manufacturers to include
them in a system recognisable by the world market, said
participants in a seminar on Croatian original products, held on
Friday within the Zagreb international autumn fair.
The Agriculture Ministry has launched a programme for advertising
Croatian agricultural produce and foodstuffs abroad.
There are six projects in the programme, which will be financially
supported by budgetary means of 1.26 million kuna (157,500 US
dollars).
The projects include marketing campaigns about common mussel from
Ston (on the peninsula of Peljesac), young beef, some products such
as honey from the peninsula of Istria, and the above mentioned
'Slavonski Kulen'.
Over 40 exhibitors at the international fair in Zagreb put on
display Croatian products such as original cheese, olive products,
meat, fruit-made brandy, and truffles.
